3-4VC 2024 - 2025
Mrs Vedvik
Welcome to 3VC
Welcome to Year 3/4
Welcome to our Class Page!
I'm Mrs Vedvik and have the privilege to be working with the fantastic pupils in 3/4VC. I am in school Monday to Thursday
Our foundation work this term will be the Ancient Greeks and their influence on the WesternWorld'. We will find out where Greece is in Europe and about the key cities of this ancient civilisation. We will also learn about their beliefs, trade and daily lives. In science this term, we will learn about 'Sounds and the Ear' followed by 'States of Matter' (solids, liquirds and gases).
English
In English, we will be basing our writing around the picture book 'The Journey' then reading 'Planet Omar: Accidentical Trouble Magnet', a relly popular book with the children. We will practise key writing skills by completing narrative and non fiction pieces linked to our work on Ancient Greece. We will practise key English skills and complete narrative and non fiction pieces of writing based on the books we read. Children will aslo practise reading and comprehension skills everyday. Spelling is taught in school, with words sent home for your information. Please support your child by hearing them read each night at home too. Reading raffle tickets are given everytime your reading diary is signed and returned.
Maths
Over the course of the term, we will be exploring the place value of 4-digit number (Y4) and 3-digit numbers (Y3), then adding and subtracting with n umbers upto 10,0000 (Y4) 1000 (Y3). It would help the children if they could tell the time at home (analogue and digit to the nearest minute) to support learning in school as it takes lots of practise. Every week the children will be completing their X-Faxtor maths, which focuses on fluency in times tables and arithmetic. In June Year 4 children must complete a times table test to check they know all their tables from 1x-12x. In Y3, we revist to 2x,5x, 10x, then focus on 3x, 4x and 8x times tables and their related division facts. We have TT rockstars for children to use at home and the 'hit the button' game is also popular and helps build number sense and fluency. Please support your child by prqactising the times table that they have been set that week on Monday and is on Class Dojo.
Supporting your child at home
If you can do anything at home, please support your child by hearing them read as often as you can. We will try to hear them read in school and support their learning with the whole class comprehension, but 1-1 reading really does help them progress in all subjects. We will learn the times tables, but little extras at home will help. Children will also have half-termly topic homework activities to choose from.
PE
This term:
Tuesday
Y4 will go swimming so children will need to bring their swimming kit.
Y3 will remain in school for PE so need to come in wearing their kit - plain black joggers/leggings, plain white T-shirt and their school jumper.
Friday - The class will have PE together, so all children should come in wearing their kit.
