SMSC
Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural development at Etchells underpins all that we do. Opportunities are identified in the curriculum to develop these areas and we organise events and speakers to complement the provison also.
For example, the children engage with the NSPCC, Ethnic Diversity Service, Bible Encounters, Cheadle Mosque and Long Lane Church. We also raise diasbility awareness by working with Manchester City Football club and their community outreach team.
We hold charity fundraising events for Macmillan, Children In Need, Comic and Sport relief as well as send donations and collections to the refugee appeal and the Samiritan Shoebox appeal.
We take advantage of our multi-cultural community to promote cutlural development, for example, the children design and have professionally printed their own Christmas and Eid cards which celebrate these key festivals and raise money for the PTA. The children are encouraged to make food from different cultures and we hold Asian and BBQ food stalls at our Christmas and summer fairs.
Our PSHE curriculum strongly promotes spiritual development; children gain a better understanding of themselves and others, and develop a sense of awe and wonder in the world around us.
Circle times, reward assemblies, a child-driven behaviour policy, clear bullying guidelines and an active Teaching and Learning Council all contribute to the moral development of children at Etchells.
Modern British Values are promoted and discussed in circle times and assemblies. Posters are used as discussion points around the school.
