In order to help to develop your child's reading and spelling, Phonics will continue to take place daily.
You may find this website useful for games and activities to practise at home.
During Year 2, we focus on writing to entertain (fiction) and writing to inform (non-fiction). Children will write for a variety of purposes across all subjects. We use a range of film clips, picture books and chapter books to promote a love of reading and writing. We will begin by using Zahra, a short animation about a child in Africa.
Cursive handwriting will be practised daily and once established takes the pressure of children when trying to write longer texts.
As well as daily practice of the Year 1/2 spellings, we will work on the spelling rules set out in the National Curriculum and these will be tested weekly in school and in the SATs tests in May.
