The Solar Eclipse !

Wow what an amazing experience we had today! I do hope you managed to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse yourself. In the words of the children it was " amazing, beautiful, glorious and fantastic!" and I'd have to agree with them. 

The children, Mrs Thompson and I all enjoyed becoming Solar Eclipse Explorers for the day and took part in lots of activities to help us to understand more about the Sun, Moon and Earth and what happens during a solar eclipse. 

We recreated the eclipse using a watermelon, some playdoh and a torch and later with a biscuit ( some children managed to reach the total eclipse stage much quicker than others). We enjoyed producing artwork based upon what we had seen and using playdoh we explored the different textures of the Sun, Moon and Earth. We made a model to simulate the eclipse and even made an audio book to share with others what we had learnt.

It was lovely to see the children so excited and engaged.
